I've used squeeze balls and v-shaped tension devices, but I prefer the Gripmaster. It's easy to carry with you and isn't bulky like other strengthening devices. Most of all I like the individual finger positions that operate independently of each finger. This feature enables me to see if any finger needs extra work to keep my grip "in synch".
