Too flimsy for the job
Date: June 29, 2009
With careful work can be accurate to about 1 degree in loft and lie. But difficult to use. The stand is too short, so that tilting the shaft-holder-lever raises the whole contraption off the workbench. The friction coupling is not tight enough to hold the shaft in place, so you need to hold the shaft with one hand while you measure with the other. Also the instructions for measuring irons only works for the mid- and long- irons; the wedges have to be measured like woods. This gadget needs to be constructed better.
Cons: Quality, Difficult to Use, Poor Design, too small for the job

Difficult to use
Date: April 24, 2009
It takes awhile to get a good reading. Basically use this to see how far off my bending machine is. It's accurate if you are really patient. Since I'm not a pro club maker and do not use it much, it works ok for me. I mean really the darn arm swings why there isn't a protractor reading there and you have to use the seperate one is beyond me. Originally I thought I was using it wrong and it had to attach somehow... nope... I was using it right, it's just not that good.

Measureing Gauge
Date: April 24, 2009
This device is relatively easy to use and works well. My only negative comment is that the shaft holding mechanism doesn't open enough to accept thicker shafts/hosels. I had to repalce the provided screw with a longer one. This may not be a problem for others, but, as a Hickory Club player, the thicker Hickory shafts cause a problem.

imprecise and difficult to use
Date: March 31, 2009
Hey, one gets what one pays for normally. I bought this device to help in making club adjustments. Unfortunately, it has such a high tolerance (I'd say someting along the lines of +/- 2 degrees) due to looseness of joints and imprecise club clamping . Even the markings and accompanying gauge are all just shy of useless to be honest. When one considers that a loft adjustment of 1-2 degrees is normal and one finds that much variance just in measuring and remeasuring the same club... well, you get the idea.

After paying a lot over the years to have my loft and lie checked I decided it was time to do it myself. This little item is accurate, works very well and, is easy to use.

Device Review
Date: March 8, 2008
I'm a strictly home/hobbyist type, but wanted to be able to measure lofts on occasion. I purchased the above device (there aren't too many under $100 alternatives - I don't have a $300 problem and don't intend to get into the club bending business myself).
This device is basically a jig to hold the club "square/upright" while you use a metal protractor to measure loft and lie (offset can also be found). It has a clamp that holds the shaft mounted on an arm that swings for lie adjustment. To get the face square and level you do the following:
1) Move the shaft up/down in the shaft clamp so it bottoms out on the bottom of the gauge
2) Swivel the arm to get the sole of the head parallel WRT the bottom of the gauge
3) Twist the shaft in the clamp so the scorelines on the face are parallel to the lines on the gauge.
It isn't rocket science but takes some care as one adjustment will affect the others.
I have a couple of heads that were measured by the manufacturer (and have not been hit much so the measured lofts should still be accurate). I've found my measurements to be between 1/2 and 1 degree flat. And I have found these results to be very repeatable. This is good enough for my purposes.

Will measure loft and lie but the setup is somewhat difficult although with practice it can be done. An improved shaft clamp would make this a very good product.

Basic Loft Lie Guage
Date: June 27, 2007
I was very disappointed with this product. I found the machine to be unstable and would not stand upright with longer clubs. It was also not very accurate. I could not get it within 2-3 degrees of what was stated on the clubhead as far as loft measurements (I verified the loft angles with another machine and the clubs had the correct loft/lie). I wanted to get this to have something mobile but trying to get used to it I ended up more frustrated than pleased. Just my 2 cents.
