Just bought a Bushnell for $275 with 15% Father's day discount and went out to the course to play 18 with a buddy who has the Sky Caddie SG3. I was debating wether to keep the Bushnell or get a SG4 Skycaddie, so I leaped at the opportunity to operationally test both of them. Played in the afternoon of a mostly sunny day.
The results after playing 18 : Yardage for both systems was essentially the same +/- 2 yards at any given spot on the course. I liked the SG3's information about distance to bunkers and various other hazards at the tee box. I could range spots on the course with the bushnell, but it was hard to get accurate readings to a spot of grass on the corner of a bunker or other hazard at distances over 200 yards. Bushnell works better when you have something to range like a tree, golfcart, fellow golfer, or pin that gives you a 90 degree angle to reflect against. The GPS was accurate and already had all that information loaded in. So the edge goes to the GPS on the tee box. The bushnell laser rangefinder came into it's own when I needed to know the exact yardage to the pin. SG3 unit only gave yardage to front, middle, and back, so we still had to estimate where the pin was on the green. With hills, sun and shade playing games with our eyes, It was sometimes hard to judge where the pin was located. Laser rangefinder sure took the gueswork out of it. Everyone was looking to me to get them the to the pin distance on every hole. The pinseeker feature worked perfectly and was easy to use. I had no issues getting a reading on any pin. The pinseeker technology overcomes the problem of not being able to hold the rangefinder perfectly steady.
Final decision: Accurate distance to the pin is the most important information you can have on the course, so I am sticking with the Bushnell.
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Good Value, Features, pinseeker technology
