Great Rangefinder
Date: November 4, 2009
I have the Nikon Laser 800 that is light, fits comfortably in your hand and bag, and simple to use. There is a very short learning curve in targeting the flag, and if you have shaky hands - by panning the flag and noticing the yardage changes to determine very accurate yardage. I have a GPS that I now rarely use, relying on the rangefinder instead. I am satisfied with all my Nikon products.

Great Little Gadget

I used this rangefinder on a recent goldf trip to Myrtle Beach and found it to be very accurate and easy to use. You just point at the target through the view finder and push the button. The yardage is displayed instantly above the target. Very happy I went with a laser rangefinder over a GPS system.

Very accurate
Date: June 16, 2009
I use the LR800 to set up golf course for championships with a regional Golf Association. It is extremely accurate in establishing green depth, in measuring the exact disance of the par 3 holes, and in establishing total yardage for the course. Just last week I used it to judge a long-drive contest by mounting it to a tripod... pin-point accuracy every time. The LR800 carries the Nikon name, know for excellance in lense technology. It was easy to learn to use and fits perfectly into my Rules Bag.

What were they thinking
Date: January 6, 2009
I recently purchased the LR800 rangefinder by Nikon. It did not take us long to discover how cumbersome it was to use this product.
When trying to site in on a target.....we found it difficult to hold the range finder steady....and because of this movement you did not get precise yardages. Additionally, we found it difficult to site in on targets at various yardages.....especially those over a hundred yards or more. We both agreed the GPS type products would better serve those wanting accurate yardages.......in a timely manner. We returned this product in exchange for a GPS type product.
Pros: Quality, Good Value
Cons: Difficult to Use

compact, easy & accurate

My title says it all.
I like the compact size ... pinseeker is too large for me to carry around.
I like its x6 magnification ... tour v2 is compact too but only has x5 mag. Also v2's yardage display is not as clear, big font size, as LR800.
There is no non-sense feature on LR800, such as switching modes (why do I need other modes if I only use this for golfing). I just aim at my target such as pin, bunker, water, etc and the yardage shows up in a second when I press the button. It turns off by itself so that I don't have to worry about anything.
If you are considering Nikon Monarch 800 or Nikon 800s (almost the same as LR800), you can switch between first target priority mode and distance target priority mode with these two models - good feature if you would use this for hunting. LR800 does not let you switch, but I only use this for golfing and do not want to bother switching, it is prefect for me.
I also like the carrying case of LR800. It is really designed for golfing - you clip it onto your bag, open the lens cover, and you are ready to go. Nikon's own 2 models come in a pouch, so you will need to take the rangefinder out and put it back ... it would make me feel like taking a picture on a golf course.
LR1200 is good too, but the size is slightly longer than LR800.

Quick and easy
Date: November 27, 2008
I was going to buy a GPS unit and decided to go with this laser rangefinder. I was playing with a guy that had one and where his said 148 to the center...mine said 160. He was short....I was on! He hit it well..just not enough club. I'll take pinpoint accuracy over an estimate everyday. I look at a shot two and three times questioning the yardage that the rangefinder spits out and so far...I have been wrong and the rangefinder has been right.

I bought this rangefinder a couple of months ago. It's physically smaller than I expected. within about 10 minutes I had figured it out and it works really well. Price Vs Function it's a good buy.

Cons: instructions could be improved.

AWESOME TOY
Date: August 23, 2008
Purchased a Golfbuddy pro GPS unit. Tried it once then immediately returned it due to inacuracy of the distance readings. It was off 10 yds or more. My friend had a Skycaddie SG2.5 which was also inacurate because it does not give you the distance to the pin. It can only give you distance to the front, center , and back of the green. As we all know pin placement changes. Was very disapointed With GPS.
Finally I bought the Callaway LR800 rangefinder that I tried today for the first time. This is an awesome toy! It really helped me gauge the distance to the pin not just the distance to the green. I tested the accuracy several times using the red white and blue markers and I found the unit to be acurate +/- 1 yard. Most of the time It was dead on!!! I was skepticle about how this palm sized gadget can measure the distance from its position to a tiny flag that is over 400 yards away. Not only does it acurately tell you the distance but It does it in a fraction of a second. You can press the button for 20 seconds and then scan the are which you want the distance to. It will tell you distance to the closest object which is the flag. It can differentiate trees in the background from a flagstick. You can also measure distance to water hazards, trees to avoid, bunkers, and pretty much anything else. You can even measure your drives. To do this you would hit your ball then stand where your ball lies and then face the tee box from which you hit from and aim the rangefinder. This unit is small and very easy to use. It comes with tight fitting neoprene case. Its a no brainer. Just point and shoot. Oh yea, did I mension there is no stupid subscription fees? Hope this helps.

Not made for golf
Date: May 5, 2008
I tried two models of the Nikon Rangefinders. The Nikon 440 and the Nikon 800,and I had horrible results on the golf course. The yardages where they fail is at 140yds and greater. If the flag is not moving or if there is no one on the green, you are left with nothing to target. Very disappointing if your face with a medium to long iron shot. The 440 was even worse at closer ranges.
I used my buddies Bushnells and they didn't have this problem at the same yardages.

Good product.
Its great to get to a tee box and within a couple seconds know the distance to flag and all hazards. You can get a distance to anything that isnt flat.
The only negative about it is its hard to keep steady. Because it magnifies 6x, it gets a little shaky when you're trying to get the yardage to the flag.
Tip: Shoot the flag, and not the flag stick. Much easier to get a reading.
