TP Black LDP Balls

The ball performs well early. However the cover cuts very easily (2nd-3rd hole) and then performance is not nearly as good.

OK...but not my first choice

I like to play with premium balls even though I am not that great of a golfer (mid 90s). Nothing beats that feeling when you hit that wedge perfectly and the ball stops immediately or draws back. I have used the Hogan then Callaway Tour 56 for about 3 years now. Switched to Taylormade Black primarily because of the price (great sale price). Of course the reputation and reviews played a part too.. However, I have been disappointed. The ball seems at least as rugged as the Callaway maybe a little more so. And when you hit it perfect, it perfoms very well. But you really need to hit this one perfectly. It is a lot less forgiving and it is a lot easier to impart fades and draws. This is good if you do that on purpose. Not good for me. I will likely try somethin else for my next purchase especially if Callaway keeps their balls priced at $45 a dozen. Might even try the the Taylormade Red. Unlike Callaway, it was very hard from their web site to figure out which ball would be better for me.

I saw the Golf Digest Hot List review that said, "Drivers are increasingly designed to reduce spin, so here's a ball designed to work better with less spin. Good thinking." So I figured I'd give them a try given the recent price reduction. I've only played them once, but I'm converted. On my way to stock up on these....

As long or longer than the NXT Tour and more spin than the Pro V1. Best ball available in my opinion. And with the 2-dozen price break, a great value too.

TP Black and Red LDP
Date: September 8, 2009
I have recently played with both the black and the red LDP balls, and both fly as well as or better than the best balls I have used, and stick on the green as well as the best balls I have used. For my game, I am favoring the Red for distance; it may indeed give a little more role.

My New Ball
Date: September 5, 2009
I always thought I would play Titleist ProV1X balls until i finally decided to stop playing this infuriating sport. I was in Golfsmith the other day when I noticed that TP Red and TP Black balls were on sale for 2 for 55. You can't beat that deal!!! I got a dozen of each to try them out and I was blown away by the black. It seems to be longer than the ProV1x with the same great feel and it stops and drops better than it. It flies through wind effortlessly and putts pretty well, so this will be the new ball I will be playing as long as this special is going on!!! Great Ball TaylorMade!!!!

Quality ball for its new price (2 for $55)
Date: September 4, 2009
Taylormade is doing a great job getting into the premium ball market with the repricing of the TP Black and Reds. Both are high quality balls but not worth the $45/box they were previously at as they are not even remotely as durable as some other premium balls; however, at $27.50/box they are well worth the performance benefits you get. I love the spin I get off my wedges, I love the sound of them coming off the putter, they are great with the driver, and they make attacking the pin from 100-200 yards as the ball stops dead in its tracks.

These balls really go a long ways. Don't have quite the feel of the ProV1s around the green, but man do they fly. Can't beat 2 Dozen for $55.

Not up to snuff
Date: July 30, 2009
I bought these balls on the sale price to try them out. I initially liked them, but as I played with them more I saw certain flaws. They are definitely the least durable out of all the tour balls. Little chips scuff the cover and full wedge shots leave about 10 dimples of scuff and even sometimes rip so deep you can see the second layer of the ball. It is also a hard ball to control off the tee if you are not one of the straightest of hitters. It goes nice when struck well but if there's a little cut spin to it, it's gonna slice big time. It also feels a little hard on chips and off the putter face. I would go with Titleist, Nike or Bridgestone if you are looking for a very good ball.

My new ball
Date: July 29, 2009
I just put these balls in the bag after finding one in the woods and playing the rest of my round with it....Had been toying around with ProV1 and Prov1x...Nike Ones...Bridgestones....and couldn't find one i was totally satisfied with.... TILL NOW....Great flight....Easily workable....Not uncontrollable amounts of spin on full wedges....Played 16 holes with same ball till i deposited one back in the woods (not balls fault I blocked out a draw) and it had not worn much at all.....plus the have a sweet sound.....Great ball

Get good distance, equal or better than a Pro V-1. Also get good spin on approaches and chips to the greens. Very durable ball - I've played 3 rounds with the same ball.

Great buy for the price
Date: July 9, 2009
I've been using TP balls for two years now they have come a long way since last year in regards to scuffing. I bought one box of black and one of red. One round I play the same ball for 17.5 holes until I hooked it into a lake. The ball didn't have a single maker on it. They are both very durable but I prefer the Red balls over the Black because of the increase spin. I've noticed more control with pitch and chip shots, they check up extremely well. You can't beat the price two boxes for $55.
Pros: Quality, Durability, Good Value, no distance lose for a pro ball
Cons: they don't float in water ;), i can't drive them 500 yards!

This was probably my favorite ball of 2008, I was skeptical at first because I had heard mixed things. But this ball played great for me, I got good distance and feel and just the right amount of spin for my game. Sometimes I feel like the pro V1 and platinums have too much spin.

Date: December 11, 2008
Awesome Ball if your planning to have plenty of them in your bag. I played the Red and I never had this problem. The Blacks are a great ball everything I wanted except it lacks extreme durability. After three hits it had major scuffs and the Taylormade logo was gone! Like I said i dont get these balls for free so i think im going to stop using them too pricey! This happened to me to about five balls i just threw them away!
