I had an old pair of Footjoys that were probably 10 years old. I figured if they hold up that long I should just buy more Footjoys, right? Well, I instead did some research and saw a lot of Adidas converts were out there so I had a look around at what styles were available. I like simple looking stuff and these immediately caught my eye. When I saw the price, I was crushed. I kept looking around at other Adidas golf shoes but for some reason I just HAD to have these. So, I pulled the trigger on a size 11 Regular Width.
I was a little worried because lots of reviewers out there noted that the Adidas shoes ran a little small and narrow compared to other brands but I did see a couple guys claim that they ran true to size. I took a chance and ordered the exact same size as my Footjoys which were 11's.
When I received these shoes and removed them from the box the first thing I noticed was that the quality was very impressive. There was not a flaw to be noted and the leather was quite supple. I believe the leather is also pre-treated with a conditioner of some kind but if you drop this kind of coin on golf shoes I would highly recommend a good leather cleaner/conditioner/dressing package to keep them in tip top shape.
Anyway, I tried to put these guys on and at first it was not easy compared to my Footjoys. The tongue on these is stitched in fully on one side, as in it doesn't function like a "tongue". It functions like a tongue that has been stapled on one side in the inner of your mouth. Don't worry, after a few times you'll figure out the tongue and they are quite easy to put on, you just have to push the tongue to the side instead of up and out. Once your foot is in, it is REALLY in. The support is fantastic and I really love the fact that they did the tongue in this way.
As for sizing, I thought they might be a little tight the first couple of range sessions. They weren't too narrow as I had worried they might be; the tops of them seemed a little too tight, causing a very slight pinch on my upper foot. After playing 2 rounds though they fit perfectly and seem to get more comfortable each time I put them on. So don't be afraid to order true to size and allow at least 2 rounds for them to break in properly.
Are they worth the money? Maybe, maybe not. I will say that I am very pleased with them and they look SWEET.
