Golfsmith Hosel Protectors Woods/Irons: Recommended for use with any shaft removal device, these hosel collars protect hosels from nicks and scratches during shaft removal. Especially useful for aluminum metal wood hosels. This package of six includes three for wood shafts and three for iron shafts.

I use a JB puller, which exerts a lot of pressure on hosels. I always use this protector between the steel push plate and the hosel to protect the end of the hosel from getting dinged or smashed. I'm glad this product includes several collars, because it will lose its shape quickly on a hydraulic extractor.
