Callaway FT-9 Neutral Driver

Callaway FT-9 Neutral Driver If you've got the creativity in your game to imagine golf's most incredible tee shots, Callaway's FT-9 Neutral Driver is made for you. Callaway Golf engineers were able to expand on the success of the FT-5 and surpass expectations with the FT-9. With the addition of Hyperbolic Face Technology, ball speeds across the entire face have been dramatically improved to generate even more distance off the tee. Golfers have the option to choose Draw or Neutral configurations with the help of external web weighting that positions the CG to promote the desired trajectory and ball flight for the desired shot shape. HOT STICK!
Date: September 28, 2009
I had previously had an FT-3 which developed a crack in the carbon fiber shell. After dealing with Callway customer service (which by the way is one of the BEST to deal with) they sent me the new FT-9 with the Fujikura ZCOM 60 shaft. My 3 had a NV 65 on it. The FT-9 seriously BLOWS ANY DRIVER AWAY. My brother in law has D2 and this driver has a much better set up and and feel. I've been a Callaway guy my whole life and they continue to impress. The set up is great, it's not intimidating at all...given the 460cc head. Any miss hit off the toe still goes 260. I'm a 8-10 handicap- driving distance is roughly 290 and I can get it 300+ with this club. My trajectory is also a bit lower too. I'm not afraid to let loose- ubelievable control....anything from a low/high draw to a low/high fade, this driver can work it all. Thanks Callaway, again for putting a great driver on the market!

I love this driver! It is longer and straighter than any driver I've tried. Not only does it add yardage to your drives, but it seems to have a natural magic about it. It seems to turn a slice into a cut, and a hook into a slight draw. It just works! It is a little pricey, but then all top of the line drivers are.......

Powerful and Versatile

First off, despite it's similarities with the Tour model, this club is quite friendly towards higher handicap players. The ball comes off the face very hot when well struck and fairly lazy when mishit but still goes a long way. The distance penalty is fairly low thanks to the very high MOI.
The Fujikura Z-Com shaft could be better but overall works well with this club head. The use of multi-materials is exemplary . This is a very well made driver. The center of gravity is a bit low on the non-Tour model but it doesn't cause the ball to balloon. Best of all, this driver begs to be worked in all directions. Trajectory control isn't its strength but is good enough to satisfy the mid to low handicapper.
As others have already mentioned, the only real draw back to this club is the price. If a Diamana Blue Board or Matrix X-Con was offered as a stock offering (they are available but only as custom orders and increase the price by at least $50 and can exceed $250) , the price would be perfect.
Overall, this is a spectacular club but you may want to wait till the price drops a bit or the shaft upgrades are cheaper.

Great Club
Date: May 24, 2009
This driver is great. At first I had a hard time trying to hit the club but after a few hits with some range balls I'm hitting within the center line. This is my first driver in 7 years from a VFT to this FT9 Neutral driver. Straight and forgiving. Got it with the 2 X tour callaway woods and I'm blown away.

Awesome Driver
Date: May 4, 2009
This driver is amazing. I purchased this driver as part of the recent 3 for 1 promotion because I wanted two X-fairway woods. In the past, my driver hits usually ended in me DO-ing the hole, so it stayed in the bag.
Without practice and on a first swing I hit the 11 degree, neutral driver further and more accurately then ever before. Wow! After my third drive, I love it! Unfortunately, my wife will not let me sleep with it and my employer frowns when I bring it to meetings.
If the FT-9 can turn a bad golfer into a presentable one, imagine what it can do for someone who actually knows how to swing a club.

Look Like a Genius
Date: April 15, 2009
The very first time I took this to the course...the very first time I hit it...WOW!!! I've owned just about every Callaway driver. The FT9 feels so good. From the FT3 to the FT5 there was little difference other than the shape and the FT5 felt "harder" or "clunkier" than the FT3...I traded in my FT5 for the FT9 and I'm never looking back. I've truly gained about 15 yards off the tee and even more than that in confidence. I can shape shots like never before. Looks great, but best of all...makes me look like a genius.
Pros: Quality, great feel, technologically advanced
Cons: a bit pricey
