CLEVELAND CG12 Black Pearl Wedge

Cleveland Golf CG12 Black Pearl Wedge The CG12 combines classic wedge design with advanced manufacturing processes. On each CG12 wedge, the grooves are milled to maximum conforming dimensions using a proprietary CNC mill bit to create envelope-stretching geometry. Awesome
Date: October 19, 2009
When it came time to buy some new wedges I tried the x-forged, vokey, cg12, and cg14 wedges. The callaway were nice on the fairway but hard to use in rough and sand. The cg14 felt a little heavy and I hated the yellow insert. Overall I thought the vokey was the best club, but the cg12 was a very close 2nd and overall the best purchase. The cg12's have perfect balance, go through thick grass and sand effortlessly, and provide a good amount of backspin, best of all they just feel good to hit. I bought the 46, 52, and 58 all with standard loft. Would definately buy the same again.

Stock up on these
Date: September 16, 2009
I love these wedges!! Great balance and feel, better balance than other wedges and the zip wedges are awesome... Stock up on these before year end when v-grooves are in play. Only negative is the clubface finish marks after usage - if that's a big deal to you try the chrome ones.

Great workable wedge
Date: September 7, 2009
This is one of the best wedges that Cleveland has ever made, even compared to the Tour Action wedges, which are great clubs. The cg12 is the more workable Cleveland wedge, its got a great look to it, although it goes along the lines of the Vokey club face (which some dont really like). The shaft, of course, is a True Temper Dynamic gold, the best shaft for wedges and irons alike (in my opinion). Cant really say much about the grip, it seems to be a Tour velvet, and thats not a good thing. Make sure to regrip it with either a corded Golf Pride, or just a standard Lamkin crossline, the Lamkins really complement the feel for wedges. Overall great product, make sure you try out the Callaway x-forged, Bridgestone WC, Titleist Vokey, and Nike VR wedge before buying this.

Great wedge but limited soul grind options
Date: September 4, 2009
This is an amazing wedge, don't get my wrong. I love the grooves, they give you a ton of spin and the construction of the wedge is wonderful. I only have two negative things to say about it: 1.) Black Pearl is the worst color. Hit a couple bunker shots or shots from less than ideal conditions and the face/bottom look like you've been using the club for several years, and 2.) The bounce and soul grind options are not at all in tune with good players' needs. I know there is a DSG model available from Cleveland but it is only in that funky orange finish that intentionally rusts. Square or open 10 degrees, this club performs wonderfully but the excessively massive flange makes flop shots and bunker shots out of anything but the fluffiest of sand impossible. I love this wedge and will be keeping the 52 and 56 in my bag but I have replaced my 60 with a Callaway X-Forged with C-Grind.

Cleaveland man, But Not This One.
Date: July 26, 2009
I have been playing Cleaveland wedges for the last
twenty years and have relied on their quality and
performance. I purchased the CG-12 Black Pearl in 60 degree with a low 4 bounce. Nice on the hard-pan, and packed sand that can be crusty. We can get spin, light or extreme from msot quality clubs out there when struck right. The spin factor was fair on most shots. The weight, balance is good.
however the finish starts to deteriorate immediately
after use. That doesn't bother me as much as the lack of performance I was looking for. You might
want to try another club for the money. I did. But I don't want to recommend one. Every golfers unique.

After having trouble for hours on the course with my old wedges, I was releilved to find these. I can fly it all the way to the hole and it wil stop for me. On the deep rough no problem. Though one problem will be the grooves to wear done after many uses.

Very solid wedge. The black pearl finish looks really good and the zip grooves really help with spin. The only real con is that the finish wears off after a couple of hits on the face and along the sole.

Awesome, solid Wedge
Date: May 31, 2009
Bought a CG-12 gap wedge and it's by far the most solid feeling wedge I've ever hit. Way better than my Taylormade RAC sand wedge and more solid than my Mizuno TC lob wedge. The zip grooves put a lot of bite on the ball, and it's easy to hit different trajectories. Solid on off-center hits and incredibly sweet in the center. Also loved being able to customize it with a Project X shaft. Would recommend this wedge to anyone and everyone.

Just OK
Date: February 20, 2009
I've been using Cleveland wedges for over ten years, loved the feel and control on full shots as well as around the green. When I began looking to replace them I decided to stay with Cleveland and purchased the CG12's in 54 and 58 with standard bounce. In my opinion these wedges feel hard. I usually play ProV's but have been experimenting with other urathane covered balls, and the "zip-groooves did not seem to produce the kind of spin that I was expecting except on full swings when the ball is really compressed. This is a great looking club and well made, but after a half dozen rounds and considerable time at the range, I returned them (thank you Golfsmith), and picked up a set of Vokey spin-milled wedges. These have the nice feel of my older Clevelands with amazing spin and control. Sorry Cleveland.

OK Wedge
Date: February 6, 2009
Long story short, I own this wedge in a 56/14 (wish it was 56/10), and I find it to be a decent club. I'm not really comfortable hitting it on a full swing, but for shorter shots and shots in the sand it suffices. I would recommend the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled wedge series over this wedge to anyone any day of the week. I wish I had purchased a Vokey 56 over this wedge, but I'm not willing to simply spend the extra $120 to have both. I will learn how to hit this wedge how I need to, but I'm not a big fan of the "Zip Grooves" as they tend to shave the cover off of my ProV1s whenever I really swing the club. The Vokey doesn't seem to have this tendency. Hope this helps someone.

I bought a 50 and 60 degree Wedge in this series. I have already seen a great improvement in short game. I have a lot more control. The ball grips well to the surface of the club giving it well controlled spin.
Highly recommend this product.

Great Club for a while
Date: September 18, 2008
Bought two of these clubs about six months ago. I love the feel and the ability to stop the ball with these wedges. Easy to control trajectory as well.
I have also owned the 588, and CG 10 wedges. These wedges grooves wore down extremely fast compared to the other Cleveland wedges that I have owned.
If you play and or practice a lot, plan on replacing these wedges more frequently than you are used to. If you can afford to do that it is a good wedge.

I replaced my 52, 56, and 60 degree wedges with a set of these about three weeks ago and all I have to say is WOW!
The first real beauty of these is in the trajectory control. I can hit low knockdowns or open them up and throw em high. If I can dream it, these will do it for the most part.
Second thing I've liked is the accuracy. The first three or four wedges I hit were dead nuts on the flag and never tried to leave. Impressive.
In last place, but still better than the Callaway X-tours they are replacing, is the spin. Good checking power, nothing overly aggressive. You will not start backing balls off the green if you didn't already, but I notice a better check on chips and pitches with my soft 2-piece balls I play. Maybe a ProV would see some magic, but they shred my balls pretty good so I'd hate to see what they'd do to anything softer.

What a Wedge!!
Date: May 2, 2008
This wedge has great feel and really puts some spin on the ball with the zip-groove technology. I bought the 58 degree to complete my bag. I've always played with just a 54 degree Titelist volkey's Nickle wedge but I may have to go replace it with a 54 degree CG12. I have so much more control and feel around the greens with the CG12 now.

Ive been a fan of Cleveland wedges for a while now, but baby they have outdone themselves with the CG 12's.
They are the softest feeling wedge you will ever hit on full shots, and so easy to control on finesse shots.
know whats the best part? this wedge will stop a ball on a dime .... ive had more shots do a little tap dance on the greens with these wedges than any other at any time.
I cant say enough about this offering from Cleveland. Try em, and youll love them.

This wedge is as good as has been advertised. It has a different feel than the Titleist Vokey (more crisp, harder contact). Around the greens it is a better wedge than the Vokey. From 80 out (56degree) the Vokey has a bit better feel, but none the less, this is a great product.
