GOLFSMITH G-40+ Iron Heads

Golfsmith G40+ Iron Heads: Golfsmith's G40+ irons combine all the great playing characteristics of the G40 in a larger head size with a higher level of forgiveness. Like the G40, G40+ irons are precision cast from high-quality 8620 carbon steel to deliver a soft forged-type feel. They also feature a thin topline, minimal offset and tour grind sole. Nickel-chrome plated for durability and beauty. Head weights are 8-gram increments to aid in building a closely MOI matched iron set. Download G40+ Iron Clubhead Specs (166 KB)

pleasantly surprised
Date: September 21, 2009
I,ve been playing the Snake-Eyes Python OS and have been happy with them, but decided I wanted something smaller and more traditional so I built a set using the Graffaloy Attack lite A flex shafts and was really surprised of the results. I swear I am hitting these clubs further and straighter than I ever had before

The best clubs I have ever had.
They are smooth and very easy to hit. They are a little on the heavy side. But still easy to use.

Best Irons I've even built
Date: July 8, 2009
I have been building and playing Snake Eyes clubs for 6 years and this is the best set of irons I have even played. 5I-PW are built up on 4 year old TX-90 R flex shafts @ 5/8 over standard SW/D0 and they feel is increadible. I replaced 3I and 4I with hybrids. R&D did a great job on this clubhead. Too bad it will be a short run. Maybe I'll biuy another set for the future
Pros: Quality, Good Value, Features, great feel
Cons: too bad it's a limited edition

Solid, consistent, crisp

These are great clubs for a player at any level. Before I built them, I was an 6 hdcp. I played five rounds and I'm now a 4. They hit a very level trajectory - not too high - not too low. Spin is good. They are by-far the straightest iron I've ever hit. Nothing wrong with a straight ball. The biggest improvement I see is now my exaggerated draws or cuts do not turn into hooks and slices.

Not for the beinner golfer, but still ...
Date: April 25, 2009
... a great club combo.
Been playing a boxed set of clubs for the past 2 years on an inconsistent/irregular basis - still working on lowering my high hndcp.
Decided to take up the game more seriously and wanted a custom set of clubs. Reviewed several clubheads by Golfsmith but was drawn to the G40+. Had a friend of mine who is a scratch golfer and club builder assemble a set of G40+ (3-pw) on USTs V2 reg flex shafts. I must say against his recommendation, these iron heads are NOT really for the beginner based on the G40+ specs.
Been to the range 4 times now (once with my friend who assembled my clubs) and played these clubs 2 times. For certain, these clubs do require a little bit of effort to hit them just right, however, when you do WOW! I still have to work on my consistency a little bit more and then have my friend recommend if the clubheads need some lie adjustments.
With that said, everything about the G40+ married with the UST V2 shaft is first quality, aesthetically pleasing, great value, and when hit just right - AMAZING. Patience is a virtue - don't expect miracles right away.
Pros: Quality, Durability, Good Value, Features
