Including my pitching wedge, I carry four wedges (PW, 51, 56 & 60) in my bag. Next to my driver, a Titleist 905T, my 56 degree Srixon WG 504 is my favorite club. That was until I recently bought the Nike SV Tour 60 degree in the black satin finish. I had been playing a Cleveland CG 10 (two dot medium bounce) for the past two years but wasn't really thrilled with the club. I rarely used it opting instead for the Srixon.
I won a gift certificate from Golfsmith and figured I'd give the SV Tour 60 degree a try. I had previously read good things on various internet blogs and liked the look and feel of the club at the store. I ended up ordering the black satin finish in a 60 degree with 6 degrees of bounce. I like the lesser bounce because it makes getting under the ball very easy.
The wedge has a very smoothly contoured sole that slides under the ball a like a breeze regardless of your lie (fairway, trap or rough). There's no fear of "digging" the club into the turf and chunking the shot by taking out a major hairpiece divot. The club also puts serious spin on the ball resulting in immediate bite on the green even when hitting out of longer grass. I still prefer my Srixon WG 504 but only by a nose. The SV Tour is a fabulous wedge in feel, performance and looks. My only criticism is that the black satin finish now shows faint scratching on the face after only four rounds of use.
For what it's worth, I'm in my early forties, play to a 3 handicap and have played golf for over 30 years. Barely behind the Srixon, the SV Tour is the best wedge I've ever played and I've played plenty..... yes, including the Vokey. For me, there's no comparison. But like art, wine and women, making the right choice in a golf club is a very subjective process.
