Snake Eyes Viper Ti-Steel Iron Head

Massive size, massive improvement. New Viper TiSteel iron heads bring dramatic change in weight distribution through an innovative new construction method yielding an iron that is easy for any player to hit solid. The oversize body features a hollow lower body construction cast from 431 stainless steel. This allows for wider soles, a more rearward center of gravity and increased perimeter weighting. Like the popular Viper TiSteel fairway woods, the face is constructed of Carpenter Custom 455(TM) steel. The 455 face is stronger (tensile strength is 2 times that of 431 steel) and thinner (2.4mm) than traditional steel delivering a hotter feel while allowing more weight to be placed around the perimeter. The face is supported around the perimeter only allowing for increased forgiveness and hotter flight made possible by the thin (1.8mm), yet deep, undercut in the back cavity. The thick topline (9mm) provides confidence at address, but it's interior sculptured design removes weight

Viper Ti Irons feel great
Date: December 19, 2007
I recently made a set of Viper Ti irons for a customer who is getting back in the game as he is retiring. They felt great when I was making them. I had a chance to play with my friend and try these irons for myself. They felt solid and with the sole weighting played more like a hybrid than a traditoinal iron. Combined with Grafalloy Attack Light Shafts they are a great combination for seniors who want light weight and control.

Great For The Mid Handicapper
Date: November 25, 2007
Bulit a set of these 5-LW and I assembled them with Rifle Graphite Stiff flex .While they hit the ball straight they are very tough to"work" the ball. I would reccomend them to the mid handicapper or someone who likes the thick top line and the oversize in the head shape. Ball flight was trypical of a game improvement iron rather high and while the distance was good.5 Iron about 175 I thought the Ti feel kind of doesn't give the golfer the feedback needed to produce the confidence from shot to shot. I guess the ease of hitting the ball versus the feedback of a well hit shot will always be a tough sell to the scratch golfers. I have been selling custom clubs and playing golf forever. From playing the old Staffs when I was a kid to the forged cavity back and 431 stainless game improvement irons we sure have come a long way. I would not recommend these to the low handicapper, but I would to the 15 and above handicapper. Hitting the ball straight and the offset in these irons will help you get the club face squared. I hope this helps.

Why Doesn't Everybody!
Date: October 27, 2007
As in, "Why doesn't everybody build irons like this?!" I've always been pretty good with my short irons ( 8 iron on down), but inconsistent with my longer irons. I'm also pretty good with fairway woods and hybrids(I carry a 3,5 and 7 and a 4 hybrid). Finally, I've found a set of irons that the longer the iron the wider the sole without losing the feel that you're hitting an iron. These irons are so easy to hit it's ridiculous. I have a pretty wimpy 85 mph Driver swing, so I've always used graphite shafts in my irons for distance. These irons are so lively that I put Royal Precision Microlite 80's in them. I've been playing 20+ years and I'm a 9 hdcp. The second round I played with these I shot under par on a nine for the first time ever! They do have a higher pitch "tink" sound to them, like a metalwood, but they feel great. I've hit it thin off the toe and looked up in amazement at how close it ended up to my target. When they discontinue these I'm going to build a back-up set, because I could see myself using these irons 20 years from now!
Oh, and this is the first review I've ever written and I don't work for Golfsmith.

Outstanding Irons
Date: September 4, 2007
These irons are very forgiving, you can hit them any where on the face and the ball will not lose much distance. When stuck on the sweat spot they are very long and accurate. The wide sole makes them easy to hit off of any turf. I am 6ft 4in TALL, so I built a set of these irons #3 - #8 with UST-PV2-75 and the #9 - AW with UST-PV2-95 Shafts all 1 1/4 inch longer than standard steel shaft lengths. With D-5 swingweights these clubs are light weight but still have a good feel. I love these clubs and cannot imagine finding any factory clubs that play better for the average player. Even the long irons are easy to hit. I have tried several hybrids and I have gone back to my Ti-Steel #3 iron. Give these clubs a try, they may feel a little different at first but when you get used to them you will not want to play anything else.

SURPRISED BY JOY
Date: September 1, 2007
My handicap is around 18, I hit a driver then my 7 iron on practicaly all the holes. I have never made a club before so I spent like 20 hours researching all over the web over a 10 day period (ya I know). I was lead to this club. I typicaly hit my 7 iron 148-155 yards and didn't think a differnet kind of club would alter that (despite what I read in reviews). My very fist shot with this club I was in 2.5"of rough 167 yards from the hole with trees directly infront of me and a bunker garding the green. Well I punished the ball over the trees and to my surprise over the bunker. I staired at the club in disbelief for a second. I average 157-165 yards with this club I like that but what I like more is that it feels like butter, I love a good feeling shot. I didn't miss hit this club I hit it near perfect 15 times in a row the first time I used it. Have no doubt this is a performance club and would never take it out of my bag. I'm to poor or I would build a whole set for my bag. Have no worries about buying this club. Oh fyi, I used a SE True Temper gold lite shaft reg flex.

I am a high handicap golfer and was looking for something more forgiving. Based on all the reviews of the Ti-Steel I decided to go with it. WOW! I coudln't be happier with my decision. It is hard to miss the sweet spot on this thing, it is just huge. After matching it with the TT Lite XL shaft I added 5-10 yards to my shots but that wasn't the best part. My consistancy now is better then I expected. I never would have guessed that clubs can make this much of a difference. But with these heads it doesn't seem to matter where on the face i strike the ball, it is going to go high and far.

Confidence Inspiring!
Date: April 22, 2007
I have built clubs since I began playing golf almost 10 years ago. I was having trouble hitting my long irons with my previous few sets, and decided to try something more forgiving. Now I approach any iron hit with far more confidence, especially at 170+ yards. Though the sound is a little different than most irons, I love it. If you hit the sweet spot, the ball scorches off the face, and mishits lose 10 yards at the most. If you want to improve your game, I would recommend this club more than any other available. Put it this way... I consistently shot 105-110 before, and now I shoot 87-92. What else needs to be said??

I have used these clubs for about a year now. When I first got them I had to get use to the look (due to the wide sole) and the sound. When you hit the sweet spot you can deffinetly tell as the sound is destinct. Hit them fat and think you are going to be well short of the green and end up just off the front. I built 4-pw and sw. I liked them enough to just order an aw ( 50 deg.) wedge to put together. I have an 8 HDC and was around a 12 before building these clubs. I hope to keep improving. These are excellent clubs for anyone, and the price is great.

Where have these irons been all these years?
Date: October 29, 2006
I purchased and built a set of the Viper Ti Steel irons. I used TX-90 R flex shafts. I built these irons yesterday. Today I hit a few warm up balls on the range and I was off to the 1st tee. The forgiveness was awesome. I got away with multiple shots that should have been lost, but somehow found the fairway or were close enough not to send me into the woods. The forgiveness of the heads is awesome and the dispersion of the TX-90 shafts seems uncomparable for a high launch shaft. I built the clubs 1/8" longer, balanced the heads and shafts and then I counterbalanced the clubs. The final result is a C8 swingweight. With a solid strike you will notice a significantly higher pitched sound when compared to most other irons. I assume its an echoing sound since the cavity back is not fully closed. I enjoy the unique sound and it inspires confidence when you hit it well. I'm hanging up my forged irons in favor of these Viper Ti Steels. Today I shot an 85 at River Pines in Alpharetta, GA. My previous best on this course was a 92. I can go on and on, but I just can't say enough about these clubs. You can't go wrong - especially for the price.

My wife surprized me with these clubheads, i could tell they were made for a high to mid hadicap player, im a 4 hdc. However it was a gift. i put them on a 4.5 rifle shafts, have to say i really like the way they feel. and performance is good and i am hitting the ball longer. I showed my wife what she hade given me and asked her if she felt that being longer was better. She replied that longer is defentley better. Heck i never new she played golf. I think i will keep them in my bag for while

Date: January 28, 2006
The three most important aspects of golf clubs, look, feel, and performance are masterfully adressed and come together in the SNAKE EYES Viper Ti-Steel Iron Heads. The titanium face screams performance while being welded to a beautifully crafted steel body that exudes confidence in set-up and in the bag. The wide sole plate is a great design, I have hit shots and yelled chunk only to see the ball settle in the center of the green. They have the same effect on off center hits,in short they turn bad swings into good shots more often than any other clubs I have ever used. The welded in face technology is long overdue and I can't beleive how far behind most of the major manufacturers are in this area.Score Golfsmith!

I built a set Viper Ti-Steel Irons last year and I really like the way they feel. The ball seems to 'click' off the clubface and my accuracy was greatly improved. Distance per club was slightly less than my prior irons, however, this could attributed to a change in shafts. Well worth the money.

Super easy to hit
Date: December 10, 2005
I now have a full season with the Viper Ti-Steel irons. I'm a GCA Advanced Clubmaker who has built hundreds of sets, including several for myself. I had my doubts because of the wide sole, but those doubts were soon put to rest. I even made sure I sold my old reliable set before the season started so I would have to give these a fair shake. I now recommend the Ti-Steels to my customers. They have a little different sound when hit pure, but it has become a sweet sound. They hit the ball higher than my old set, but also further. These are great clubs for a mid- to high-handicapper (I bounce between 11 and 13). They are so easy to hit! Thanks, Golfsmith.
