Snake Eyes 685BX BLK Forged Wedge Head

Snake Eyes 685BX Forged Wedge Head (Black): Advanced materials and manufacturing combine to create one of our best wedge designs ever. Fluid forged using a soft 8620 carbon steel, Snake Eyes 685BX wedge heads undergo an 800-ton force forging process, creating a softer feel and increased durability. The wedges have the USGA-maximum groove volume (9% greater than any previous Snake Eyes wedge), by way of expanded groove width. CNC face milling ensures perfect flatness across the face and increases friction between the club and ball. Finally, the tour-influenced sole grind relieves material in the heel and toe for excellent versatility in a variety of conditions.

Very impressed
Date: November 10, 2009
Built one of these wedges with a Rifle Spinner. Awesome combo for me, I get great spin and control. I'm very impressed by the durability and quality of this wedge head. The grooves are milled very well and the finish is spectacular. Forged head, not as soft as a Mizuno, but definitely softer than a Vokey. Great price, saved a good bit of money by buying this instead of a Vokey.

Love this wedge
Date: September 29, 2009
I built this sand wedge with a Rifle spinner shaft and first time out on a very tough course I threw caution to the wind and used the wedge without practicing with it. I had some tough shots from behind the green and in the bunker but this wedge was so soft and spun the ball so well that I was getting up and down from everywhere. My highlight was a 50 yard shot into a very fast island green that hit by the pin and came to a dead stop. Thinking of building the gap wedge now.

Excellent Wedge
Date: September 8, 2009
These wedges (54* & 60*) bumped my spin milled Titleist Vokey's out of the bag. They work through the turf as well as the Vokey's but give me significantly more spin! Not sure how as the are both milled faces and square grooves but they do. Played Taylormade Rac Tp last season and Vokey's most of this year until a month ago when I switched to the 685BX. Where you will notice the extra spin the most is greenside. I have no problem spinning my short and mid irons on full shots into the green. Where I would like more spin is on short chips or half shots into the green and these clubs deliver in a big way compared to the others I have play. FYI I am currently an 11 handicap.

Long live square grooves!!!
Date: August 31, 2009
Really nice Snake Eyes wedge! I loved my old 600WB wedges because of the wide sole, but they couldn't get the ball to check like this one. Very playable from bunkers and rough. Just make sure you keep moving thru the ball because it will stick once it hits the green. The wide sole doesn't work as well from a tight lie, but I really bought this for greenside rough and bunkers and it's perfect from those spots. Love the black finish!

I currently play the 600WB wedges, but decided to purchase this wedge to see what the box grooves were all about.
PROs - sharp grooves really grab the ball
- attractive smoke-chrome finish
CONs - less versatile sole (too wide)
- less versatile bounce (not enough heel relief)
- firm feeling at impact
After my head-to-head comparison, I decided to return to my 600WB wedge. It has a softer feel and more versatile grind on the sole. Grooves are good enough.
Pros: Quality
Cons: Poor Design

BEST WEDGE EVER
Date: July 15, 2009
i will never build another wedge. when this head is not produced anymore, im going to buy all that i can. soft feel, great spin off the head, awsome for a wedge under $100.00. better than any big name wedge on the market. can open the face and loft one, put it back in my stance and punch onto the green, or even chip from the fringe.
Pros: Quality, Durability, Good Value, looks great
Cons: absolutely no cons here

Spin It
Date: June 9, 2009
These wedge heads are the best I have ever played. They generate more spin then any other and will literally tear the cover off the ball with their bite. Match these with the Rifle Spinner shafts and you will have the best feeling wedges on the market!!

Excellent Wedge
Date: May 12, 2009
Excellent wedge. Great feel around the greens and the grooves provide plenty of spin. Classic shape and appearance, to instill confidence at address. 52* is great for hitting low, penetrating, high spinning shots that hit, bounce, and gently roll a few feet. 52* has just the right bounce for picking the ball right off the fairwary or playing shots out of the rough. 58* is nice for hitting out of the rough into short sided pins. Definitely worth every penny for half the price compared to vokey or cleveland wedges.

Great spin; poor quality control
Date: May 6, 2009
Built the 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges with the True Temper DG-S300 shafts. Got great spin, but poor distance. Distance was 10 - 15 yards less than previous Snake Eyes. Checked the lofts and lie and found that the lofts were 1-2 degress weak and the lies were 2-3 degrees less than specs. Quality control seems to be lacking in the manufacture process.
Pros: Durability, Easy to Use
Cons: Quality

Best Wedge Golfsmith Has Ever Made!
Date: March 15, 2009
Built a 52* and a 58* and matched them up with Rifle Spinner 5.5 shaft and I have never been so happy with my wedges before. The new box grooves really do produce spin much like the 'spin milled' or 'zip grooves' of the major manufactures. Love the black finish, absolutely no worry for glare. These will be in the bag for a while! Wish they made 48* up to 64* though...
