Snake Eyes Python O/S Iron Head

Looking for an iron to help you hit the ball with more consistency? The new Snake Eyes Python O/S is it. Designed for middle-to-high handicap players, Python O/S irons feature a very deep undercut cavity design with very wide soles and extreme perimeter weighting. The result is a club that is much easier to hit squarely and features a 10 percent larger hitting area than the original Python iron head just in case. Thick topline widths (9mm) and progressive offset hosels provide added confidence at address and the mirror-polished body with satin-scratch trim and rich cavity medallion create a very appealing overall appearance. The wide soles keep the weight low for mid-to-high trajectory and feature beveled trailing edges so that they play well from either fairway or rough.

Overall, great clubs for the $$
Date: August 18, 2006
These are definitely the easiest clubs I've hit. Everything feels smooth and consistent off the clubface. I have lost about 1 club in lenght from my KZG forgings, but I would trade the distance for the consistency I'm getting from off center, fat/thin shots. The appearance is great. Clean lines with a nice chrome finish. I would recommend these clubs to anyone looking for more conisistent contact and distance control on off center hits.

These are great clubs!!!
Date: February 20, 2006
I just got my pythons a week ago and I can not believe the differance they have made in the quality of shots that I have made with them. I have not been able to get on the course with them since it is -40c out right now. I have gone to the heated driving range on several ocations and I love the forgiveness these clubs give me. My good shots are great and my bad shots are ok. They have added about 5-10 yards on each shot and I can now hit my long irons without being scared of them. If you are a mid to high handicap player and you do not want or do not have lots of money to spend on brand names, then these are the clubs for you.
When the snow melts I will write another review after a few rounds.

A Totally New Game
Date: January 14, 2006
For five years I have struggled with my game. I mistakenly settled for discount clubs never believing I could afford a high quality set of irons. "Put your money in a driver," I told myself. As a result my average score never got lower than the high 90's. Two months ago I purchased a set of Snake Eyes Python O/S Iron Heads, 5I thru SW. After one trip to the driving range I was scoring in the low to mid 80's and it is getting better. The touch, hit, and feel of the ball contact is something I had never experienced before. My quest has ended in my search for a better game. Thanks for building a quality product.

Made a set for my brother and for my girl friend. Put Dynamic Golds on brothers and XL 90s on my gf's. They couldn't be happier. Both are high handicappers and benefiting from the forgiveness. Long irons are really easy to hit and get very good height and distance. Would recommend.

I purchased the lob wedge head to make my first club. I am very happy with this club head. It is over-size and offers a pretty big sweet spot for a lob wedge. It also looks great on the end of a shaft.

Very forgiving irons
Date: April 23, 2008
I had a old set of grafite shafted snake eyes wedges that I switched between two set of irons. I decided to leave one set, my grafite shafted clubs, in Florida and keep the steal shafted set in NJ. I had to build a set of wedges with steel shafts to match my steel shafted irons. I chose the python heads and TT's reg. flex steel shafts. I couldn't be more pleased with this choice. They feel great and are very forgiving. My mis-hits are toward the toe and with these irons I still get solid contact!

This is a great product for mid to high handicappers. Very few off center hits and feels very nice. I did lose a couple yards of distance but made up for it with more consistency. My only concern is that the finish is easily scuffed, but other than its a great clubhead.

I've had a set of these for a while, 4- 9 iron with graffalloy attack lite shaft, all a half inch under standard. I have always had trouble hitting irons and getting them up, but not with these. I have gained 20 yards with every club, and can hit each with confidense. Buy these clubs!

Short game
Date: August 19, 2006
I recently built a loft wedge(60 degree) and matched it with the python iron shaft. This club is the easiest loft wedge to hit that I have ever swung. I have no fear of taking a full swing even as close as 15-20 yards off the green. The feel is great and the ball stops on a dime. If you open the face up you can get even more height with less distance. Great club to get over trees or sand traps onto the green. It added a new dimension to my game that I have never had.

Great value, very forgiving
Date: June 26, 2006
I began playing golf after college, playing with Golfsmith original XPCs. Now, 9 years later, I just played my first round with my first new set of irons since that original set, with these Snake eyes python OS's.
I had been also considering the Viper Ti irons, but the salesman talked me into these, which are less expensive. I had asked him for the "most forgiving irons you sell", and he recommended these (but he also liked the Vipers as well). I was also impressed with the previous reader reviews written here below about these clubs.
I was not disappointed! I had 5I-SW built with lightweight stiff steel shafts (I replaced my old XPC 5W, 3i, and 4i with Callaway heavenwood hybrids 17d, 20d, and 23d, which I also highly recommend).
Wth these new irons, my well-hit shots were traveling 10-20 yards farther than similar well-hit shots on my old XPCs. On the first par 3, about 180 yards with a little tailwind, I pulled 6-iron, hit the sweet spot, and watched the ball fly the green by 20 yards. The right club ended up being an 8-iron! Even a chunky 7-iron went to the front edge of the green.
The oversized heads and lots of perimeter weighting really advanced the ball well even on mis-hits. Shots hit thin still got airborne well.
On another par 3, about 190yds, I hit a 6-iron pin high, where I usually hit 4-iron with my old clubs on this hole. Full disclosure, my first shot sliced into the water, so it IS still possible to hit bad shots with these clubs! (my playing partners commented that I did a good job of "working the ball left-to-right on that first shot").
I have not hit expensive name-brand irons to compare these Snake eyes to, but I am VERY happy with the performance of these clubs for such a great price.
The only caveat would be if you want a thin top-line appearance in your irons when addressing the ball, then these are not the clubs for you. These look pretty thick over the ball (which I don't mind for most shots).

Not Just for Beginners!
Date: May 25, 2006
I am a 9.3 handicap and have been playing for 20 years. When I played more (6 years ago), I was playing to a 2.8.
I have alwasys had trouble hitting toward the toe of the club. These irons are superhot on the entire face. If you hit the ball in any place that is grooved, your shot will come off nicely. The center of the face obviously produces the best distance and control, but mishits are not judged and rejected. Shots with the 7 iron hit on the toe lose seem to lose about 3-4 yards of distance and produce a minimal fade (about 3 yards). That is great results from a poor strike. The wide sole seriously helps any shots hit fat. The club will bounce on the ground rather than dig in to the dirt. Thin shots make an ugly high pitch sound, but the ball flight and distance seem to be almost unaffected. I purchased 5-9,p,a,s. Interestingly, the 5 and 6 iron emit a strange sound when you hit them. Remember that sound that you heard when you first hit a Taylor Made metal woods in the mid 80s (that ping sound). The long irons make a sound very similiar to this.
If you think that you are good enough to regularly work the ball or if you desire to be punished for mishits, then I would not suggest these clubs for you. However, if you are among the 98% of us that desire to hit straight easy shots that keep the ball in play and produce lower scores, then I highly suggest that you give these clubs a serious look. I sat down my Ping G2s to play these clubs.

Great Game Improvement clubs
Date: April 6, 2006
These clubs perform as well or better than my custom Callaway Big Bertha irons. I assembled these clubheads with True Temper Dynamic gold Super Light S300 iron shafts, winn AVS G8 grips at a D2 swing weight. These new irons are 30 grams lighter per club (approximately 100 grams) than my big bertha irons with 5.5 Tour Flighted rifle shafts. It took me a couple of range ball buckets to get used to the overall weight but I've added 5 yards and have the performance of the latest technology shafts from true temper all at a 1/3 the price of my Big Bertha irons!!! These irons go straight and long! I'm between a 15 and a 20 handicap and these clubs are perfect for me. Low handicap players will not like them because the workability is bad. However for 90% of the USA golf population, you'll love them!

I have used a set of these irons for the past year, and they replaced my OEM set. I use to tell people that I hit my long irons short and my short irons long! Not any more, the short irons stayed long, and I picked up anywhere from 1 to 2 club lengths on the long irons. These are the most forgiving irons that I have ever hit--hit them on the hosel, the toe or anywhere in between and the ball still goes. Hit it on the sweet spot and the ball takes off like a rocket! I can strongly recommend these irons to any player regardless of their skill level. After using these irons and playing with friends, I have six friends that have purchased the same irons after seeing me hit mine...the least expensive set of irons I have ever owned and by far the best! Thanks GolfSmith for making these available in left hand too!

Amazing Feel
Date: January 21, 2006
I built this set for myself because I just didn't want to spend the money for a "name brand" set of irons. Much to my suprise, I find that these irons are every bit as good as any of the others I had tried out. I really like the feel and forgivness of these clubs. I am a high handicapper (getting lower!) and have knocked 10-15 strokes off my average round with these clubs.

I recently built a set of python OS for a friend, what makes this a different build is that he had polio as a child and has only the use of his right arm. With the help of the awesome staff at golfsmith they helped me to determine that the golfer needed more flex in his clubs, (slow and steady swing). They helped me with the amount of cut off at the tip end, length was standard. This golfer is now shooting in the low 80s most days, 90-95 before, with consistent accuracy and distance, am now working on a belly putter to get rid of wrist breakdown. He loves his pythons, had OEM irons before. Great clubs.
