I began playing golf after college, playing with Golfsmith original XPCs. Now, 9 years later, I just played my first round with my first new set of irons since that original set, with these Snake eyes python OS's.
I had been also considering the Viper Ti irons, but the salesman talked me into these, which are less expensive. I had asked him for the "most forgiving irons you sell", and he recommended these (but he also liked the Vipers as well). I was also impressed with the previous reader reviews written here below about these clubs.
I was not disappointed! I had 5I-SW built with lightweight stiff steel shafts (I replaced my old XPC 5W, 3i, and 4i with Callaway heavenwood hybrids 17d, 20d, and 23d, which I also highly recommend).
Wth these new irons, my well-hit shots were traveling 10-20 yards farther than similar well-hit shots on my old XPCs. On the first par 3, about 180 yards with a little tailwind, I pulled 6-iron, hit the sweet spot, and watched the ball fly the green by 20 yards. The right club ended up being an 8-iron! Even a chunky 7-iron went to the front edge of the green.
The oversized heads and lots of perimeter weighting really advanced the ball well even on mis-hits. Shots hit thin still got airborne well.
On another par 3, about 190yds, I hit a 6-iron pin high, where I usually hit 4-iron with my old clubs on this hole. Full disclosure, my first shot sliced into the water, so it IS still possible to hit bad shots with these clubs! (my playing partners commented that I did a good job of "working the ball left-to-right on that first shot").
I have not hit expensive name-brand irons to compare these Snake eyes to, but I am VERY happy with the performance of these clubs for such a great price.
The only caveat would be if you want a thin top-line appearance in your irons when addressing the ball, then these are not the clubs for you. These look pretty thick over the ball (which I don't mind for most shots).
