Snake Eyes Python XL Iron Head

Snake Eyes Python XL Iron Head: The Snake Eyes Python XL Iron Head is designed for the mid- to high handicap player seeking increased distance and accuracy. The Python XL brings the game improvement of the Python OS with slight shape and cosmetic adjustments. The topline and leading edge of the face has been softened to be more pleasing at address, while the enhanced bounce angles prevent "fat" shots. As with previous Python models, weight is placed where it is needed most, with the undercut cavity and "reverse progressive sole" design. The longer irons are designed with wider sole widths to place more weight low providing higher flight and softer landings. Features: Easy-to-hit irons for all player levels Progressive offset from 6mm in the #4-iron to 3.5mm in the wedges Download Python XL Iron Clubhead Specs (182 KB)

A Wedge
Date: September 19, 2009
I built my set of Python Irons about 5 years ago. I now leave my clubs at the golf course. Since gas prices have gotten so high, I ride my bike part way of the 14 miles to the course. I needed a wedge that matched my existing wedge to practice in my one acre field. So I made the one I bought to be able to practice. Since I had an extra shaft and grip it only cost me around $10.00. I am 77.

good & inexpensive

Performance is as good as other Golfsmith clubs costing a lot more. High ball filght, and unless it's a very ugly mishit the ball stil goes fairly straight. Not much workability, that was expected tho.
Great value

WOW

I was very impressed with these heads. The forgiveness they provide is awesome! You cant help but hit the ball straight. The ball flight is high with a soft landing on the greens; these heads added about 5 to 10 yards to each of my clubs. And finally, these are BEAUTIFUL club heads; they look sharp in and out of the bag and always draw the eyes of the other players. This is a great product that I highly recommend for any player looking to hit the ball straight and far.

very good clubs, buy them for more forgiveness
Date: July 8, 2009
These clubs have great forgiveness, and workability. I have a whole set now and when I get better at golf, I plan to sell them. If you want better spin control, don't buy these clubs. but if you are a 100 to 90 shooter, these clubs are recomended for you.

Great Clubheads!
Date: June 30, 2009
I'm a "Happy to break 100", senior golfer. I'm left-handed and have built myself 5 or 6 sets of clubs over the years.
After reading the reviews on this clubhead, how easy it was to hit, I finally ordered the set with the recommended graphite shafts in A flex.
When I finished assembling them I went to the range for a test. On my returm, my wife said, "Well, how did they do?" My reply was, "Well, it was almost supernatural! I haven't hit irons that good in the last 20 years".
Golfsmith, PLEASE do not discontinue these clubs just to bring out a new model. For a 20+ (left handed) handicapper, these are definitaely a must have!

easiest long iron
Date: June 4, 2009
I have had problems for years hitting long irons. In fact, i didn't make a 3 or 4 with my current set. I tried 3 different Hybrids and none worked very well so I tried this and it turned out to be the easiest long iron I have ever hit.

Date: May 21, 2009
Based on some of the other reviews I picked the Python XL and built 5 iron through AW. I used the DD2 Lime grip and a regular graphite shaft. I have played two rounds and I am having great results. The ball is flying straight at the flag now. These are much better than I expected.

Good Product, If They Have Them
Date: April 24, 2009
This is a great iron head for the recreational golfer. The problem is that, as I write this, several of the heads are unavailable or "due in" at a later date. This is Golfsmith's best selling iron but they can't keep them in stock. Too bad because it forces clubmakers to go to alternate sources.

Excellant club head....
Date: April 2, 2009
I purchased a Python XL 7 iron head to add as a demo club to my small shop. I was very pleased with this clubhead's performance in regard to it's forgiveness and shot placement and will be building myself a set.
The design of this club head not only provides a deep cavity back that will allow it to compete with other extreme game improving clubs on the market today, but also offers the appearance of a thinner top line at address.
Golfsmith has proven it is possible to take advantage of game improving performance without a bulky looking clubhead.
In my opionion Python XL's performance places it at the top of the list of club heads offered by Golfsmith. This club head's performance and affordable low cost proves you don't always get what you pay for!

Straight As Can Be!
Date: June 29, 2008
I built this clubhead in combination with the standard Rifle steel shafts and made them to a stiff flex on the recommendation of my golf instructor. I played with them a couple of days ago and these are the best irons I have ever built. I gained 10 to 15 yards in distance and can't believe the accuracy! If you want to be able to hit them straight at your target I highly recommend these heads.

Nice Heads
Date: May 22, 2008
I purchased the entire set, including the wedges, and built most of them. VERY nice clubs. I downchecked them for two reasons. One: there is no three iron (aka my get-out-of-the-woods iron). Two: the back cavity is difficult to clean...you need to air-spray them out. I love the way the wedges work. They all seem to just need the same swing, and the results have been very satisfactory. Now the only club in my bag that I didin't build is my putter...everything else...Golfsmith!
