Avoid This One

Reasonably accurate for yardage, but doesn't accurately show hazards on the several courses I play regularly. It shows traps/water that are not there as well as not showing hazards that are. Also the constant charges ($20) a pop for features that should have been included makes this a very expensive device. It's annoying that during the first year of ownership feature upgrades are not included.
I definitely won't be using this for a second year, the value it provides is not worth the membership fee. It is helpful, but I think another device would be a better investment.

I was given the sg 2.5 for a christmas present about 3 years ago. I purchased the SG 5, late this summer. WOW! big difference with the color screen, the 10 more courses you can store, and the ability to keep your score. I really like the ability to get the distance front, center and back of the green. Bottem line, my scores have come down thanks to the sky caddie. Now if they could come up with something to help me with my putts.

I had been using the SG2 for the past several years and liked it. I moved up to the SG5 recently and I am very pleased. It has many more features -longer battery life between charges, a bigger and easier to read screen (even in the bright Arizona sun), Internal score card. It speeds play because I don't waste time looking for distance markers. I have even found some courses that have been redesigned that failed to put in "new" distance markers on the sprinkler heads, the SkyCaddie gave the correct distance to the green. It is on the upper end of the price tier but I highly reccomend the SG5.

Don't waste your money. My SkyCaddie worked great for 6 months, then most yardages were inaccurate. SKYGOLF support didn't help solve the issue and SKYGOLF did not stand behind their product. Once you buy the product your on your own,

SkyCaddie just works!
Date: October 1, 2009
Great product. Easy to use and easy to view. Very accurate. Saves strokes especially if you're dealing with deep greens like my home course. Getting the accurate distance to the back has sometimes had me adjust one to two clubs. The ability to get a distance for the layup yardage to have yourself 85 to 90 yards out has helped me alot. I'm a14 hdcp and I highly recommend.

Takes the guessing out
Date: September 21, 2009
I got this for a present and it really helps. Takes all the guessing out and is a definite stroke saver. A bit pricey but will hopefully last a lifetime and I guess if youre playing golf youre not too bothered about cost anyway !! Also you can charge your buddies $1 for every yardage you give, now thats how to make money from golf !!

Beware of "extra" costs
Date: September 7, 2009
Let's start this review saying that I really like this device, it's great on the course and helped me improve my game by at least 4-5 strokes per round. Now the "ugly" truth; the battery life is horrible!! The customer service guy at skygolf told me that their batteries are built to last 12-14 months! The replacement is around $50 (all in). Factor that in to your yearly subscription of $30 to $60 and you'll have an $80 + cost EVERY YEAR over the cost of this product. I'm replacing the battery and selling mine! Too bad, 'cause I really like it.

Sky Caddie SG-5
Date: August 31, 2009
I've had my Sky Caddie since late July 2009. I use it every time I play. On a course that is mapped, it is GREAT with giving accurate distance to & over hazards etc.
I recently played a course with GPS in the cart. The Sky Caddie had virtually the exact numbers at every location throughout the round.
On a course that has only the front/middle/back yardages it is still helpful in that you know accurately how far away you are.
I now find myself checking the front/middle/back numbers more than the actual distance to the pin. Getting onto the putting surface is just as important as knowing where the pin is located.
I agree with others who have posted......the annual fee is a bit pricey, but Sky Caddie is the best there is.

I have been using the SkyCaddie SG5 for the last few weeks and it has helped lower my scores by giving me accurate info for approach shots, my short game and the info on fairway bunkers and water hazards. I would recommend it to anyone who wants accurate info for carrying troubles spots and for accurate lay-ups.

Skycaddie Flaws

I have owned a Skycaddie (SG2) for 3 1/2 years. The following comments pertain to all Skycaddie models. I have had to replace the rechargable battery 3 times in 3 years (Skycaddie charges$50 per battery although they can be had on the Internet for less). I have had to send in the unit twice for repairs ($50 first time and $75 second time plus $15 for shipping). Customer service is fair. The last time I sent in for repairs they replaced the unit but sent it back with a dead battery. I had to debate with C/s for an hour before they agreed to send me a new battery.
And of course the annual subscription fee seems excessive.
I don't need all the stats and other frills provided by other units, but I want a unit that lasts without requiring repairs or a new battery every time I turn around.

This is selling for $399. You can buy a Callaway uPro for $399 and get $100 off with rebate! uPro has satellite views - SkyCaddie doesn't
uPro has Basic view which is the same as SkyCaddie and you can download Basic view for courses all over the world for FREE! The Pro mode courses cost a couple bucks a course but I love the satellite view. I had an SG4 but it broke so I replaced it with a uPro and am darn happy! SkyCaddie cost me $50 a year even if I didn't want to download any more courses. The unit is disabled if you don't pay your annual fee!

Awesome, but...
Date: July 1, 2009
Having played with golfers using the SG5, I really liked how it worked and when I saw the great deal from Golfsmith, I was sold. I am basically a one-track golfer with 20+ years at the same course and when you are in the fairway, memory usually takes over and you know what to hit. I have found the SG5 most helpful when I am off the fairway AND/OR when within 80 yds of the green. Just seeing the SG5 displaying the you have 67 yards to carry to the front over the bunker is positive reinforcement rather than say 70 or so yards by guesstimating. I hope that they continue to upgrade the software to make it so you can download your scorecard as well as any of the "Mark Ball" locations to your pc after your round.
