Awesome starter set 4 1/2 stars if i could
Date: October 29, 2009
This is an awesome starter set, the irons have a massive sweet spot, the shafts are a good beginners flex, the clubs them selves are very durable, and they keep their finish well. The hybrids are pretty nice and you can hit them surprisingly far. The fairway woods aren't great but get the job done. The driver is probably the best club of the set, it works great and can drive the ball really nice and far.
My only complaints are that the bag, which is included, isn't very durable mine fell apart in about 6 months. (This may have to do with me being 17). Also the sand wedge is not a sand wedge it's got a massive sole which makes for some pretty inconsistent shots. The final thing is that once you get to a certain level of skill the clubs won't work that well for you. (For me the shaft was to flexible and couldn't handle my swing speed this resulted in all kind of miss hits typically slices because the club face was opening up on my down swing)
As i already said this is an awesome starter set but expect to out grow it (skill wise) if your serious about golf.

Great set for novice golfer
Date: September 4, 2009
I'm so happy I got these clubs!! I'm a beginning player, using a very old (yet good set), however I had to return those and get my own. I got these set with a discount (the golfsmith "employee friends and family discount"), and got this set for $200 with shipping. FANSTATIC purchase. I love the clubs!! The hybrids are my favorites. It took me a while to get the hang of hitting them (you have to think of them as an iron and not a fairway wood), and once I did, everything in my golf game changed. I'm a "double bogey" player, yet am improving every week with these clubs. I may consider, in the future, getting a different, more expensive driver, every other club will be in my set for years. One thing is the putter design seemed alien to me, I started to use others with people I played with and realized soon I actually like this putter. 100% satisfied, and the non-discount price of $299 seems very reasonable.

I was up grading my 13 yr old son from his first junior set to an adult set, for what was included these clubs were by far the best deal around. Come to find out, He's hitting long and straight. For me, these clubs hit incredibly accurate and are much better quality than my own clubs. He can bet I will be borrowing them from time to time. Also, several friends of mine are now looking to purchase the same set for themselves.

Exellent Clubs
Date: June 13, 2009
I just bought this set as my 2nd pair of clubs, and I think they are awesome.
The driver is very good and on all my shots of the tee have been a lot straighter than with my old driver. This driver also has a fair amount of forgiveness and is easy to use.
All the irons are very good and I have been hitting a lot longer shots since i got them (about 20-40 yards farther) and they are of very good quality...
Overall I would say this is a great set that has everything you need. The putter might be a little off from the way i hit the ball, but I guess that's probably just me. I would not recommend this set if you are a total beginner but more if you know the game's rules and how to hit the ball.

Great Set for a Beginner
Date: January 22, 2009
As a beginner, I needed a set of clubs to get started. Previously, I had used my friend's clubs when playing, but he's quite a bit shorter than me, so I decided to go get some clubs my size.
The guys at Golfsmith were great about letting me play with the clubs before I bought them, and I found them to be a good fit for my height. (I'm 6')
The "woods" are very light weight and have very forgiving, flexible shafts. I would describe them as whippy. I don't get quite the same distance off the tee as I did with my friend's much stiffer clubs, but I can also hit a lot straighter, which is more important to me as a beginner.
The hybrids are nice as well, with a bit more weight to them to help you have the confidence to really dig in and drive off the fairway.
The irons. Wow. The irons are where this set really shines. They are quite heavy and solid on the bottom, which gives you the momentum to really get under the ball with the higher irons. I love the SW in particular, it's weight and solidity really let me carve the ball out, even when it's sunk halfway in the sand. The lower irons have generous faces and are forgiving of off-center hits.
The putter is very odd looking, but I can't deny it plays well. Once you learn to use the aiming arrows on the tail, you can send the ball where you want it. I found the putter to be a lot lighter than the one I had previously borrowed, so I had to put a little more behind it on longer putts, but you get used to it quickly.
The bag is very well built, although I found the rain cover to be kind of useless and have removed it. Lots of big pockets, a self-folding stand that actually works, and nice backpack style straps for carrying. Very light. The straps are sort of a pain to adjust, but once I got them right I didn't have to fool with them anymore, and they are very comfy.
All in all, a heckuva good value. The set came with a sleeve of balls and a bag of tees (plus some markers). I am very satisfied with what I got for what I paid. Everything you need to walk out on the course and play except a glove. Great set.

A Positive surprise
Date: July 25, 2008
My wife bought me this set for a gift as a replacement for another brand I had requested ( my original request was not in store at the time of purchase). As a new to golf I was originally looking for brands I'd know even by name, but this was totally new to me. Now I've a few rounds of golf ready and I'm all satisfied with these clubs, especially irons and hybrids have been my favorites. I find this set suitable for beginners who're not after 'brands-in-fashion ' but serious about learning the game of golf.

decent

I bought these clubs from a kind of pushy salesman, but I had a tee time for my first outing so I went with this set. On the ninth hole the head of my 5 iron broke off! The next day I took it back and they replaced it, and I haven't had a problem yet. I don't know much about golf but these clubs have been decent so far, maybe a little pricey.

If you are like me, a beginner, and were thinking of getting a set of clubs, you may have been recommended these clubs by the golfsmith staff. The sales staff informed me that these are the house brand for golfsmith. (house brand = high quality and low price) The sales staff also informed me to join the golfsmitth reward club and i would get a discount coupon emailed to me that i could apply on the purchase, which saved me over $40.00. The sales staff also told me latter that they are not paid commission so they were really trying to help me out which i feel they did. Golfsmith also has a sales magazine by the front door that has coupons if you must buy asap.
I am too new to golf to really know a good club from a stick and i cant really hit with the drivers or the hybrids(of any brand) as yet but as far as the irons go i do like them. They are oversized and thats the one thing i knew i wanted. The bag is nice and comes with lots of pockets. it also has the little stand legs that pop out when you sit it down.
An advantage to buying at golfsmith is they said labor is free as long as i kept the receipt. Which means if you want them lengthened or the grips changed, you only have to pay for the the extensions or grips.
I am really happy with this set and i feel it is of high quality as well it comes with the square head driver technology and hybrid 3 and 4 which i will eventually figure out if i like.
Since i am really not that great of a golfer this review was really more about the golfsmith employees helping a new golfer find a very good set of clubs at a good price. I am very happy with their advice and have no regrets.

Great beginner set
Date: June 18, 2008
This is my 2nd set of clubs (my first set was the Wilson Tour Rx, which I bought for $200) and I'm fairly happy with these. The irons are great - the wide sole it makes getting under the ball fairly easy without digging into the grass too much and I'm getting roughly 10 yards more per club with this design.
The woods and hybrids have regular flex shafts, but the kick point is a little high for faster swing speeds (I replaced the driver and woods with stiffer shafted clubs). However, the 3 and 4 hybrids, are a bit easier to control than the woods (due, of course, to the shorter shafts). The putter is surprisingly good - fairly light and forgiving on off-center putts.
Long story short; if you have a slow to medium swing speed, this would be a great set for you. For faster swing speeds I'd recommend finding a set with stiff shaft woods/hybrids, and even a 3 & 4 iron instead of the hybrids depending on your preference.
Pros: Quality, Durability, Good Value
Cons: no choice in shaft flex

New to golf

After talking to my father and telling him i wanted to start playing golf, we went to Golfsmith to look around me being a complete beginner my father didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that could just be a faze. I found this complete set and was interested in it after I hit a few balls with these clubs I fell in love with them. The Irons are straight and long. I've actually over hit a few par 3 with them. The hybrids are great I actually got to a par-5 in only two using the 3 and then the 4 (but of course I missed the eagle putt). Just today my fourth time ever on a golf course I hit one 242 yards with the 3 hybrid. I don't use the driver simply because I cant hit it straight it's nothing against the club my dad hits it straight and long, he actually prefers it to his ping driver. My only complaint is that the putter is not very good. But at the end of the day these clubs are a great set to any beginner
